Using The Lunar Cycle To Optimize Your Work Life

It's said that different moon phases have effects on human emotions. But why?

The Moon exerts a strong gravitational pull on Earth that causes the changing tides in our oceans and seas. This gravitational pull is strongest during the New Moon and Full Moon, during which time we experience the highest and lowest tides. Considering humans are made up of 60% water, it makes sense that the Moon would have a similar impact on us mostly-water beings. It's thought that during the New Moon and Full Moon, our emotions, like the tides, are pulled to the surface.

So how can we utilize these lunar forces to optimize our work life?

New Moon Practices: New Lunar Cycle, New You!

The New Moon is the beginning of the cycle and appears dark in the sky. Our energies may feel lower, but it is the perfect time to reset, recharge, and refocus.

  • Shhh, Quiet Time. Put your phone away (you can do it!) and allow yourself a moment to disconnect from the constant notifications of modern work life.

  • Set New Goals. Write in a journal or planner what you want to accomplish this cycle. What new projects do you have on the horizon? How can you set yourself up for success?

  • Get Organized. Declutter your physical desk and tidy up your virtual desktop. Move into this cycle with nothing standing in your way!

Full Moon Practices: Bring Illumination Into Your Life

The Full Moon is the lunar phase when the Moon appears full from the Earth's perspective. It is a time of illumination (both literally and figuratively) to appreciate the fruits of your labor and observe things with more clarity.

  • Meditate In The Moonlight. Combine the tranquil energy of the Full Moon with a much-needed meditation. Meditation reduces stress, increases patience, and even improves sleep quality.

  • Release Habits That Don't Serve You. After looking back on the previous month, what patterns did you notice that hindered you from achieving the goals set during the New Moon? Did you scroll through social media to put off an impending deadline? Or perhaps you responded defensively to criticism. Allow yourself to notice your faults with compassion and think of ways to improve for the next month.

  • Get Active! Release any pent-up or negative energy stored in your body with a heart-opening yoga class or shake it out with some cardio.

Even if you consider yourself an astrological skeptic, having set times of the month to establish new goals and monitor your progress will keep you on track to being your best self. So why not let the sky be your guide?
